Mark Ritchie (1963) was born in Sydney, Australia. In 1992 he moved to Germany and has lived in Ourense since the late 90s. He works as a photographer in diverse fields such as architecture or documentation in collaboration with different museums and national institutions or through collaborations with graphic design studios. He has held various exhibitions both of his personal work and associated with documentation projects. For some years now, he has also been teaching creative workshops in the educational field.
"My introduction to photography occurred in the 70s in high school thanks to an enthusiastic teacher who organized a photography club that even had its own photographic laboratory. Between the years 1981-84 I studied photography at the Sydney Technical College. Without a doubt, this training with a solid technical component significantly influenced my approach to photography. In the practical classes, we used magnificent Swiss instruments with large format film and we worked with great technical rigor in the laboratory. The topics that interest me are broad, like life itself. Probably, living surrounded by nature since I was young has left a deep mark on my personal work.”
In the end, light is inexorably linked to photography. Light, fleeting and ephemeral, like listening to music, is a constant source of inspiration.
